The GMC Jimmy was an upscale corporate twin to the Chevrolet Blazer SUV. GMC introduced the Jimmy in 1970, a year after Chevrolet introduced the Blazer in 1969 as an alternative to the Ford Bronco, International Scout and the Jeep Cherokee/Wagoneer (SJ series). The Jimmy, like the Blazer, was redesigned in 1973 and in 1992, and shared all the Blazer's drivetrains as well as virtues and vices. The full-size Jimmy would become the Yukon in 1995.
GMC would also introduce the compact S15 Jimmy in 1983 as an upscale twin to the Chevrolet S10 Blazer. They would be redesigned in 1995, and would drop the S15 designation altogether. The compact Jimmy would be replaced by the Envoy in 2002.
See the Chevrolet Blazer entry for more information about the full-size GMC Jimmy.
