The Great Wikicars Migration

Dear user, I am writing this note to inform you that over the course of the next few days Wikicars will be migrating to a new home on Shoutwiki. Since we have been left for dead by parent site Internet Brands, Wikicars will be merging with Shoutwiki Autopedia. Rest assured we will do everything in our power to preserve all existing articles in our move including talk pages and edit history so your articles of interest will remain intact. All we humbly ask for is your patience and understanding. Thank you.

If you have further questions, ask me on my talk page or User:Silver Knight.

Welcome to Wikicars!

Hi there, ChargerSRT8, and welcome to Wikicars! I'm a regular moderator and contributor here, and when I notice on the recent changes log that a new editor has registered, I like to send them a welcome message - that's how I ended up on your talk page.

There are a few useful links that you might want to look at, designed to help newcomers to Wikicars learn the ropes:

Here are a few templates on Wikicars that I find particularly helpful when I start a new page:

Here are a few features of Wikicars that I find particularly helpful:

  • If you leave a message on a talk page, you can sign it with four tildes (~), which will automatically produce your name and a date stamp when you save the page.
  • The "Show preview" button allows you to look at what your post will look like before you save it - that way, you can proofread what you've written and not have to back and correct spelling mistakes, failed links, etc.
  • You can create a watchlist for yourself that will keep a record of any changes made to a page that interests you.

There are plenty of other features and facets of Wikicars, many of which I probably haven't even discovered myself, so have fun looking around and finding them.

If you need help, ask me on my talk page.

Again, welcome and thanks for adding to our community! - Red marquis 04:58, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

UPDATE

Whoops. Don't worry. I've fixed the problem. Carry on. Red marquis 05:30, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Spyker Template Image Voting

Just so you know, we are currently holding elections for which image will grace the Spyker Template in Garage Talk. Since you are a member, your vote would be most appreciated.

Don't mean to sound rude

However, could you not post press releases as articles? I don't have anything wrong with posting the typical PR in articles, but if there isn't some context then it sounds like we're promoting whoever(Chyrsler in this case). Additionally, I've noticed that some of the other articles that you have made seem rather opinion based in parts. I don't have problems with advocating your favorite brands, but we're trying to be as un-biased as possible here and stating mainly the facts. Once again, I don't mean to be rude but I don't want the site to start being adverts for different cars.

A few comments: I don't really love or hate any makes in any degree. I have some that I tend to favor more than others, but that's as far as my passion goes. I'm not a fan of American cars, but that's not because of anything in particular. It's actually because I love the potential the companies have, but I dislike it greatly when they don't live up to it. Jeep, for instance has failed me several times in the recent past. The first was the Compass, a car that started as a concept idea of a modernized Wrangler with the offroad capability retained. The Patriot, as an equally bad idea, primarily because it was essentially the same car as the Compass and Jeep felt compelled that it needed two of the same car to offer. The Gladitator, a Jeep truck, has yet to get beyond the concept stage despite that it's a great idea. Unfortunately, instead of being a brilliant car like the Wrangler that could be more comfortable offroad, they decided to make a stupid car-based suv that was never meant to leave the nearest highway. They have tried this once before, it was called the Willys Aero. Never heard of it? That's exactly my point. Buick could be a world reknowned luxury auto maker and beat Infiniti and Lexus at their own game, but GM refuses to actually take any chances. They don't realize that the modern luxury buyer wants more than heated washer fluid. Neither the Lucerne or Lacrosse have AWD(even Lincoln MKZ does!) or manual transmissions(just about every other lux make does). I understand not everyone wants a stick, but even then the only auto trans the Buick cars have are four-speeds. Four-speeds weren't even hi-tech back in the seventies. And now days Mercedes even has a seven-speed auto trans! The point is I bash US cars, but that's not because I dislike them for being American just that they could be so much better.

I'm sorry for this long post, you can delete it after you read it. Argen 01:30, 05 August 2007 (UTC)

Dodge Viper SRT10

Charger, I did some major restructuring of the Viper SRT10 page and found the page o be lacking a viable introduction. being that I don't know much myself about the vehicle, I was wondering if you would kindly write a new one. Thanks.

Bureaucrat Position

I would like to put forward my nomination for Bureaucrat Status. Besides being the most frequent contributor on this website, I am working on projects such as establishing an Anti-Spam bureau, and further renovation of our pages that I feel would require these Bureaucratic powers.

Hemi Engines

Just so you know, Wikicars' has dedicated page template specifically for engines. To use it on a page simple type {{subst:engine}}. Anyway, I've noticed you seem to have quite an extensive knowledge on the subject. How would you like to help improve the Engines page template? I would really be glad if you improved Engines dedicated infobox. What do you think are necessary information and which ones are rubbish, etc. What say you?

And how about creating a dedicated template specifically for Hemi engines? Yuo could start here:

GM LS Engines

Sure. It would be pretty useful in fact if we did the same to all families/categories of motors. Red marquis 06:35, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

I have recently discovered how to format our infobox in similar fashion to Wikipedia's Master Template System whereby a we will no longer have to replicate the infobox again and again for each individual page. What will happen instead is that from this point on there will be a set of codes similar to the ones below that will act as a "surrogate" and where you will be filling out the basic information. It will replicate the "master template" on thepage but with the individual information you've written filled out on it. What this allows for is that if and when we finally decide to change the design/update the infobox we will no longer have to manually alter each infobox from page to page.

I will soon implement the same type of system for the "Engines" pages.

{{Infobox |
|Image = place image here in 300 pixels
|Marque = place marque here - not manufacturer
|aka = Type aka here, not up there
|Production = produced from when to when+total units made (optional)</nowiki>
|Class = denote market class
|Body Style = how many doors+how many seats+what type of body
|Length = length - type here
|Width = Width - type here
|Height = Height - type here
|Wheelbase = wheelbase - type here
|Weight = Weight - you get the point
|Transmission = transmission + drive
|Engine = engine
|Power = N/A hp @ N/A rpm<br>N/A lb-ft of [[torque]] @ N/A rpm
|Similar = similar (competition)
|Designer = Designer (lead designer if it was a team effort)
}}

Image categorization

You weren't informed. 0-172 is cracking down on image categorization. Basically, what you have to do is type the phrase [[Category:(Marque) images]] on the summary box in the upload file page. Note that you are supposed to actually write the name of the marque and not the word "marque". Also, the words "Category" and the name of the marque should be capitalized while the word "images" is not. I know it's a bit of an annoyance but it is necessary to keep this site organized. Thank you. If you have any firther questions don't hesitate to ask me.

Please be kind enough to categorize the recent bulk of images you have uploaded for the Dodge Challenger. I can't do it all alone.

Red marquis 06:49, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Categorizing

Cool. I've done images 40-75 on the last image uploading binge. It's up to you to do the rest. IMHO, as a car enthusiast, the more images the better.
