The Italdesign Boomerang is based on the mechanicals of the Maserati Bora, and was meant as a proposal for the Bora's successor. Unlike many of Italdesign's branded proposals, Maserati was involved in the Boomerang's creation. After travelling to many auto shows, it was sold to a Maserati enthusiast in 1974. The vehicle was sold to a second owner in 1980, who performed a full restoration. It was shown at the 1990 Bagatelle Concours in Paris where its designer, Giorgetto Giugiaro, signed the tail panel. The car was auctioned off at the 2005 Christie's International Motor Cars Sale for the price of $1,000,000 USD.
