Reliability

3 year 100,000 km, 100,000 km on powertrain, 3 year on paint, 3 year on perforation corrosion. Membership to Holdenwise 36 months roadside service.

Minor service interval

10,000 km

Major service interval

20,000 km

The VX Commodore fared the same reliability as its predecessor and therefore, giving out hardly any trouble. However, the imported Gen II V8 is considered less durable than the engine it replaced as it uses oil excessively and ran noisy.

According to Car Survey.org, the average reliability score is 8.48 points out of 10.

Fuel gauge problem

The fuel gauge in a VX Commodore can give faulty readings that can tell the driver of the car that it's running out of fuel. The main problems would be the fuel gauge sender and VXs with VIN earlier than 849803 were affected.

One owner of a 2002 Berlina ran out of fuel with its trip computer showing 110 kilometres to empty and the fuel gauge indicated between quarter full and empty. Other owners had ran out of fuel when the fuel gauge read out a quarter full and are demanding repairs for the faulty fuel gauge.
