Bricklin became known in automotive circles after becoming the Subaru importer for North America, which gave the company the contacts and the experience in the auto industry to take the plunge and start producing its own car. The car, named the SV, came in two generations - the SV1 and SV2, however the burgeoning company lasted only two years due to rising build costs and low orders.
