There are several different ways MP3's can be played in todays vehicles:

1. The CD player can play both regular CDs and those recorded in the compressed MP3 (and WMA) digital format.

2. A universal input jack that allows portable MP3 players to be played through the vehicles audio system.

3. A dedicated connector that integrates the portable player with the vehicles audio system allowing the user to control the functions of the player with the vehicles controls and display track information within the vehicles audio screen.

4. A PC card (PCMCIA) slot integrated into the vehicle.

5. A USB flash drive stick integrated into the vehicle.

6. A digital audio player (e.g. Phatnoise) system.

7. An SD card slot integrated into the vehicle.
