The Dodge 400 was a short-lived, upscale version of the Aries K-car that was available only in 1982-83. Its drivetrain and dimensions were identical to the Aries, so that meant the 2.2L I4 was standard and Mitsubishi's 2.6L I4 was optional. The 2.2 was available with either a 4-speed manual or 3-speed automatic transmission, but the 2.6 was available with automatic only. The 400's main styling differences from the Aries were recessed individual quad headlamps and blanked-off rear quarter windows on the sedan. The 400 was offered as a coupe and sedan, but was not available as a station wagon model - but it was offered as a convertible, whereas the Aries was not. Other than a different nose and a more nicely-appointed interior, the 400 was basically little more than an Aries in a dinner suit. The 400 was discontinued after 1983, but the coupe and convertible model lived on as a 600 when they were absorbed into that line.
