Wikicars:About
Welcome to Wikicars. Please help us build the most comprehensive car guide in the world. Discuss the site with others on our Garage Talk page.
About Wikicars
Wikicars is impassioned by the role of the automobile as an enabler of personal freedom, exploration, and growth. Wikicars is propelled by car enthusiasts, working collaboratively to create the World's most comprehensive source of information about all things automotive. By all things automotive, we mean information about topics such as:
- Cars, Trucks, and SUVs
- Hybrid Vehicles and other Green Vehicles.
- Supercars
- Vintage and Collectible Cars
- Famous Cars
- Car Shows
- Car Accessories
- Car Manufacturers
- Car Designers
Well...you get the idea. The word "cars" and "car culture" are merely shorthand for the wonderful ability to venture out on one's own into the world. We want Wikicars to cover it all: if it primarily moves on wheels, has a means of propulsion, and the ability to transport you or your friends and family-- bring it on.
And don´t forget Garage Talk.
Encyclopedia or Guidebook?
Wikicars is both. Wikicars aspires to be the most comprehensive source of fact based information about automobiles-- a Wikipedia of cars. At the same time, Wikicars is a guidebook, offering the consensus opinion of our community about the good, the bad, and the ugly of the automotive world. We believe this concensus opinion is very helpful; opinion and reviews that reflect the collective views of many people are much more likely to be accurate and unbiased.
We have attempted to clearly label the opinion parts of the site. Some pages, such as Car Review Pages, are designed to be primarily opinion. Other pages have specifically labelled sections called "criticisms".
Wikicars Founding
Wikicars was started in June, 2006, by Internet Brands, the parent company of sites that include CarsDirect.com, Autos.com, Greenhybrid, and Autodata Solutions. These sites offer some of the web's richest automotive content, and Wikicars has been seeded with some of Internet Brands' content. Internet Brands family of sites also includes Wikitravel.
