The Moskvitch 2141, sometimes referred to as simply Aleko (Russian: "АЛЕКО", derivative from factory name "Автомобильный завод имени Ленинского Комсомола"), is a Russian mid-size hatchback car manufactured by Moskvich.
It was first announced in 1985 and manufactured between 1986 and 2001. From 1988-2001 an upgraded Aleko, which was renamed to Svjatagor, was produced. From 1997-2001 its sedan body version, Moskvitch 2142 was also produced.
History
Shortly after introduction of Moskvich-412 in 1967 engineers of MZMA started planing of the new car. First plan was to enlarge the bodyshell of Moskvich-412 20 cm in length and 10 cm in width, and to increase wheelbase 15 cm. Prototypes of the car were named series "3-5". On these cars the mechanical layout was planed to retain as it was on Moskvich-412. This project wasnt realized and series "3-5" ended 1975 with prototype "3-5-6". "3-5-6" had similarity in several aspects with BMW cars and the influence of Renault cars was obvious also. In 1974 was started new project which was named "C". The BMW-520 E12 car was used as a one model car during the designing process of "C" series (axles and some other parts copied). During 1974-1976 C1, C2, C3 and C4 cars were built, but then project stoped. Factory received order from ministerium of automobiles industry of USSR to design frontwheel driving car instead rearwheel driving. As the Simca 1307/1308 cars were pleasant to the ministerium officials it was given order to take these cars as the basis for the workout of the new car. Ten new Simcas was immediately buyed and the designation process of new Moskvitch started. Formally "C" series continued as the prototypes were also named C-"x". The first protoype used Simca bodyshell with engine and with lot of other parts accommodated from Moskvitches and was named Maksimca ("Максимка").
===Recent Changes=== In 1997 a facelit was made for the car and it was renamed to Svjatogor (in Russian Святогор). Major changes were made on car front side. New Hella manufactured headlamps, a new grille and other parts were used to give a more modern appearance to the car. In the mechanical side the 2.0 litre Renaults F3R petrol engine was used alongside with Lada 1.6 litre and UZAM 1.7 (later 1.8 and 2.0 l versions) litre petrol engines. Some minor changes were made in gearbox and several design flaws of Aleko gearbox corrected. Some changes were made also to dashboard, etc. As the financial situation in the factory was very difficult, the assembling quality of the cars was going down being lower from the Aleko.
