Reliability
RECALL ALERT: Holden recalled 123,719 VZ Commodores to fix 124,000 side airbags. The problem is that there are reports that side airbags had inflated when not intended to. The problem had not only affected the VZ Commodores but Statesmans, Crewmans, Monaros and HSV models had been affected as well. [1]
Despite the above recall, the VZ Commodore had been more reliable than its predecessor. One of the reasons behind this is the rapid rear tyre wear affecting older models has been reduced and build quality has improved.
For cars with V8s, engines that rattle and burn oil are apparently normal. Many of them have been driven hard and owners should check the clutch and brakes to see if they're worn. Aftermarket modifications could reduce the car's reliability.
