The Porsche-March 89P was a collaboration between legendary single-seater manufacturer March and Porsche to launch an assault on the lucrative Indianapolis 500 crown. However, the car was ultimately under-funded due to Porsche's faltering financial position in the face of the stock market collapse, and subsequent company political disputes over the directions it would follow in the future led to the project being poorly directed and frequently delayed. The car was not particularly reliable nor competitive, and at the end of the year Porsche withdrew from single-seater race engine production.
