In the 2009 Darwin to Adelaide [[Global Green Challenge]], HSV claimed that the Maloo is the winner but in fact, the Maloo, entered the Global Green Challenge had the worst fuel consumption of 7.74 L/100 km, most CO2 emitted of 178 kg/km and uses the most fuel (243.5 L). Of the rest of the 17 competitiors, Ford (who entered the Fiesta ECOnetic into the challenge) is disappointed at HSV's claim especially when the Fiesta ECOnetic used much less fuel and produced half the emissions the Maloo produced.
