New Nominations

Hi everyone. I wanted to bring up what might be a touchy issue, namely the nomination of new Admins. First of all, let me say that this is in no way a commentary on whether or not I feel Invader Car or Enzo are worthy of their nominations. I'll be chiming in with my two cents on both of them.

Having said that, let me say that Enzo brought up a crucial point in his comment about Invader Car. He mentioned that right now, our site is not quite large enough to warrant any more administrators than we currently already have. Spammers and vandals are being dealt with in a timely fashion, and our current admins are doing a great job with edits. The community as a whole needs to grow more, and to be honest, I feel like our current lineup of moderators needs to be tested under the weight of this larger community before we really know how many more we'll need.

But more relevant to the nomination process, I'm of the opinion that we curb or discourage self-nomination. To put things in context, Wikitravel also technically allows for self-nomination for admin status, but it is RARELY done. In the past 9 months, I've only seen one person nominate himself on Wikitravel, and he was quickly declined by the existing admins. The rest of the admins who have been approved have all been nominated by existing administrators, and I believe that's the way it should be. It should also be noted that the community at Wikitravel is significantly larger and more active than that of Wikicars. I just feel that we as administrators know what we want to see in a fellow administrator, and we are better able to see when certain qualifications are evident in our users.

Again, this is not to say that Invader Car has done anything wrong; I'm merely pointing something out that may become a dangerous trend in the future if we don't nip it in the bud.

If I've made a mistake or offended anyone in bringing this up, let me know. - Pastrami on Ry 18:18, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

I see no fault in your views, nor am I offended. I agree with what you have said. Self-nomination should not be a large matter (if none at all) on this site. Looking at what you have said, I am considering removing my self nomination, and re-thinking how I will get nominated. Enzo Worshipper (Talk to me + Contribs) 19:09, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Enzo, I think bureaucrat nominations are a different issue. I certainly think you are capable in that arena, and you would receive my full endorsement. The only thing I'm unsure of in this case is exactly what part we as administrators play in the actual selection of those at the bureaucrat level. I wanted to discuss it personally with our existing bureaucrats before I made any comment on the issue, but generally speaking, I wouldn't have any problem at all with your promotion to that level. I would reserve removing your nomination until we've heard from one of them.- Pastrami on Ry 19:15, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. Enzo Worshipper (Talk to me + Contribs) 13:34, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
Enzo, I too believe you have the capacity for bureaucratic rights, someday. I just don't think Wikicars is in the dire need of another bureaucrat, just yet. You've been an amazing moderator and site administrator, thus far, and I don't think Wikicars would be where it is today (or look like what it does, for that matter) if it weren't for all the contributions, hard work and diligent monitoring that our team of moderators has put in. As Wikicars continues to flourish, I'm sure we'll have the need to add more sysops and bureaucrats, and I know you will be at the top of the list for bureaucrat nominations. =) But, until we start seeing a need for more admins, I think we can temporarily suspend further nominations. -Nidhi 17:19, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Invader Car's Nomination

I think there are more users here. I don't know where, but this was my hypothesis. Is my nomination ready yet? Invader Car (Talk to me please! + Go to the Edit Cafe! + Sign here in this page!) 19:57, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

Everyone may oppose here.
