Introduction

Hi all!

What a great website! Caught my eye due to my love of automobiles and my hope of expanding my journalism - comment on my articles if you can. Live in Scotland - an amazing country, with some fantastic roads that I shall pick out for you all. Usually seen snooping around the Porsche section (one of which I'll own. . . eventually, but money appears to be lacking just now ;) ).

I've been made a Porsche expert, of which I'm rather flattered about, and I'm really pleased about becoming the 'featured member' in February. The growth of the site had been amazing - long may it continue!!

Why I'm here

Basically to expand the site, spread the knowledge and practice my writing. I'm currently expanding the Porsche section, but I've started a few other marques (Porsche based: RUF, Buchmann. . . hmm, I see a pattern forming), but plan to diversify into other (essentially British) manufacturers.

Future Plans

Just started a RUF section, which will be getting constantly updated, along with the Porsche section, to which I shall be adding articles to. Many Porsche articles are complete, but a few need tweaking and expansion of detail. I'm a believer in original writing - which is why I've been painfully slow in completing only a handful of articles. But I do hope they are of quality. . .

PS - if anybody has pictures that I can use on these sites, let me know.

Motoring Trivia

A few stats to put everthing into perspective:

  • According to the EuroNCAP crash testers, Audi's Q7 SUV is less harmful in a pedestrian impact than a Ford Fiesta.
  • A full season of Formula 1 burns less fossil fuel than a single transatlantic 747 flight.
  • The Stern Report found that cars contribute less than half of British transport emissions.
  • The average British home emits 1,500 kg more carbon dioxide per year than a Ford Focus.
  • The UK's most polluted street is Oxford Street, London. Ironically, most of its is closed to cars.
  • A fully-loaded Land Rover Discovery emits less carbon dioxide per occupant than a fully loaded Smart.
  • Mining nickel for use in Toyota Prius batteries has created acid rain. This acid rain has destroyed the landscape in Sudbury, Ontario, to such an extent that NASA are using it to test their Lunar vehicles.
  • Driving from Edinburgh to London in a small diesel is at least three times cheaper than taking the train.
  • The average car in the UK is responsible for its own weight in CO2 per year. However, the average Brit causes 30 times their body weight in CO2.
  • A domestic UK flight emits four times the carbon dioxide of a small diesel car - even if the car only has one occupant.
  • A Land Rover Discovery has a smaller carbon footprint than the ubiquitous London Taxi.
  • Despite being smaller and emitting much less C02 than a Toyota Prius, the VW Polo Bluemotion is not exempt from London's Congestion Charge. The Prius is. Go figure.
  • Flatulent cattle are responsible for 18% of all greenhouse gases - more than all transport methods put together.
  • A Boeing 747 emits 400 tonnes of CO2 in 24 hours. It would take 250 cars a year to achieve this figure.
