The Chevrolet HHR (Heritage High Roof) is a retro-look station wagon that was launched by Chevrolet at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show as a 2006 model. It shares the GM Delta platform with the Chevrolet Cobalt and Saturn ION. It is similar in concept to the Chrysler PT Cruiser, though a bit larger.
The design of the HHR has been credited to Brian Nesbitt, who was a former designer at Chrysler, where he was the lead designer of the PT Cruiser. Nesbitt was recruited by General Motors to join its design staff, and served for a time as the chief designer of the Chevrolet brand. The HHR is assembled in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico and is available for sale throughout North America.

Recent Changes
- The 2007 HHR remains relatively unchanged since its debut in 2006, with the exception of two new exterior colors and slight engine upgrades.
- 2008 sees the the introduction of the 260 hp Chevrolet HHR SS. Equipped with the same 2.0L turbocharged and intercooled direct inject Ecotec four-cylinder found in the Pontiac Solstice GXP and Saturn Sky Redline, and mated to the Sweden F35 five-speed manual transmission or 4T45 four-speed, The HHR SS can dispose of 60 mph in 6.3 seconds and the quarter-mile in 14.8 seconds at 98.5 mph.

Styles and Major Options
The 2007 HHR comes in two trims: the LS and LT. Both are front wheel drive vehicles that are powered by a 2.2L 149hp I-4 engine and a 5-speed manual transmission w/OD, though the LT also offers an optional 2.4L 175hp I-4 engine. Reliability
The HHR only debuted in 2006, so accurate long-term reliability information is not yet available. However, Consumer Reports states that "first-year reliability has been average."
- RECALL ALERT: On September 9, 2008, Chevrolet issued a recall alert affecting nearly 300,000 2006-2008 Chevrolet HHRs due to defective instrument panel storage bin latches which do not meet federal safety regulation and can allow the compartment to fly open in the event of an accident. General Motors urges owners to head to their nearest local dealer for replacement.[1]
- RECALL ALERT: On March 13, 2009, GM issued a recall alert affecting 276, 729 cars, namely all Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Cobalt, Chevrolet HHR, Chevrolet Malibu, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia, Pontiac G5, Pontiac G6, Saturn Aura and Saturn Outlook built for the 2009 model year, due to a loose clip on their transmission shift cable. The failure of the clip to be locked into place may prevent the transmission from moving into Park. This recall is filed under the NHTSA Campaign ID Number 09V073000. [2]
Safety
The HHR performed well in safety tests carried out by the NHTSA. In tests for rollover, it received a 4-Star rating, and for all other front- and side-impact crash tests, it received 5-Star ratings. Some of the standard safety equipment found on the HHR includes:

According to Kelley Blue Book, "in terms of resale value, we expect the Chevy HHR to hold its value slightly better than the aging PT Cruiser, but not as well as some of its Japanese competitors, such as the Scion xB and Toyota Matrix."

Current Generation: (2006–present)
The vehicle's design is inspired by the 1949 Chevrolet Suburban with large, square fender flares and a hemispherical grille. GM hopes to sell 60,000 per year, with pricing starting at US$16,990- $25,000, depending on the model (LS, LT, 2LT). The HHR in LT trim comes equipped with a standard MP3-capable radio and power driver's seat. It has a large cargo-carrying capacity for a car of its size, with a flat-load floor and fold-flat front passenger seat.
