What's a Tribrid?

It depends on who you ask, but Tribrid refers either to the next generation of hyper efficient cars, or, as in the case of Brazil's Obvio, it refers to cars that have three sources of power: conventional fuel, ethanol, and electricity.

The Obvio: Brazillian designer, Obvio, has partnered with Lotus, makers of the Tesla Roadster, to create this cab-farward tribrid, which can run on any combination of regular gas/bio ethanol, natural gas, or electricity. If it makes it to the United States, it's estimated to have a price tag of about $59,000 USD.

Just over 10.5 feet long, the Obvio is a high-performance micro sports car, with side-by-side seating for 3.

Rumors have it that the Obvio will be available in the Fall of 2008. By then, the company will also offer a 160 MPH non-electric multi-fuel car with the same body, with a more affordable price tag of around $28,000 USD.
