Reliability
- RECALL ALERT: On August 23 2007, Peugeot have announced a massive recall for the 307 which affects 240,000 units built between 2003 and 2006. A seal on the hardware that the ABS and ESP systems share can allow water infiltration and potentially cause a short circuit in the ABS/Stability control system. This defect can have the potential to cause the car to go up in flames. [1]
Summary
The Peugeot 307 is fairly reliable. It has a complex electrical system and fiiting aftermarket accessories in there can cause electrical problems if the job isn't done right. The brakes give excellent stopping power but brake wear can be a problem. The timing belt should be replaced every 80,000 km for petrol variants and 120,000 km for diesels.
There had been bad cases of lemons and many build quality and mechanical problems were reported.
Safety
The safety features in the Peugeot 307 include
- Driver and front passenger airbags
- Front side airbags
- Front and rear curtain airbags
- ABS with EBD
- Active front head restraints
The Peugeot 307 scored 4 stars in a round of EuroNCAP crash testing and 2 stars for pedestrian impact.

Criticisms
One man was unhappy with his Peugeot 307 and he plans to have his car crushed. [2][3] The 307 is believed to be the worst Peugeot built and the owner didn't get much back up from Peugeot UK. There is no word yet when his car will get crushed.
