Introduced on October 3, 1968 the '''Volkswagen Type 4''' was [[Volkswagen]]'s first large car. Initial Type 4's had a 68 [[HP]] 1.7 liter air-cooled flat-4 with Twin Solex [[carburetors]]. In late 1969 this was replaced by Bosch D-Jetronic [[fuel injection]] and output rose to 80 HP. For midyear 1972 the car was renamed the 412. For the 1974 model year the twin-[[carburetor]] engine returned this time in 85 HP 1.8 liter form. But the damage was done; 1974 would be the Type 4's final year and it would be replaced by the [[Volkswagen Passat|Dasher]].
