In 1983, Lee Noble, experienced racing car builder and designer, bit the bullet and created his own car company. The first product from Noble Automotive was the Ultima Mk. 1.

The Mk. 1 proved a strong start for Noble, but use of the car highlighted a few flaws. These flaws would be fixed with the successor, the Ultima Mk. 2.
