Peter Monteverdi (b. June 7 1934 in Binningen, Switzerland, d. July 4 1998) was a Swiss automaker and creator of the automobile brand Monteverdi. At the beginning of his career, Monteverdi was a car seller Ferrari agent and for other international prestige brands. From 1952 he started producing his own cars under his name. In 1961 he built the first Swiss Formula one car, which was bearing the name MBM (Monteverdi Basel Motors). Monteverdi bought the Onyx F1 team after its original backer ran into financial difficulties but his attempt to run the team on a shoestring and in an interventionist style led to its rapid demise.
