Paddleshift is a feature in Automastic transmission cars that allows the driver to shift manually.The main purpose is to increase the performance of this car when need it.This will bring both performance and driving excitement.


Early paddleshift

Paddleshift were originally available in F1 cars.Later,paddleshift was used in supercars.But now even economy class cars like Honda Jazz have paddleshift feature.


How to operate

Usually cars that are equipped with paddleshift have 2 panels behind the steering wheel.The left side is for shifting gear down and the right side is for shifting up.Usually the left side has a negative sign,while the right side has the plus sign.


Paddleshift in popular cars

Paddleshift is avaiable in many famous cars such as Ferrari Enzo , VW Golf GTi , Honda Jazz , and Maserati GranTurismo.Almost all premium class sportscars have paddleshift today.


Advantages and disadvantages

As paddleshift don't require clutch,it shifts faster than normal manual transmission.As the result,the performance of the car is better than conventional manual transmission car.Drivers will also experience the excitement of quick shifting.

However,there is a pricy for this feature.It cost more expensive than normal Automatic transmission.It is also heavier than normal manual transmission because it's a semi automatic transmission.
