2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe (W212)

Codenamed W212, the eight-generation E-Class, penned by Gorden Wagener, arrived in 2009 for the 2010 model year, with the estate version (codenamed S212) arriving a year later. It was also decided upon to rest the CLK-Class name in favour of selling it as an E-class coupe.<ref>[1]</ref>

An all-new instrument cluster, along with S-Class night-vision technology and an updated COMAND system will highlight the interior changes.

Power-wise, it looks as if the full-range of Mercedes engines will be available, in diesel and petrol variants, although there may be limits in developing markets. The basic powerplant will consist of four-cylinder engines with the horsepower rating starting at 175 bhp, followed by 6 and 8 Cylinders and the performance-built AMG variant.

Presented at 2008 Paris Motor Show through the Mercedes-Benz ConceptFASCINATION concept car.

Official photos of the W212 have been leaked on the internet on the 10th December, 2008 ahead of its 2009 Geneva Motor Show unveiling.<ref>W212 Mercedes-Benz E-Class shots leaked online!</ref> Scans of a leaked brochure have been posted onto the internet in January 2009, detailing the whole E-Class range including the new E 200 CGI and E 230 CGI with direct injected forced inducted engines.<ref>Leaked 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W212) Brochures with detailed specification sheets</ref>

Mercedes introduced the E300 BlueTEC HYBRID at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show powered by a 2.2 litre Diesel Inline-4 developing 204 hp paired with a 20 hp (15 kW) electric motor, positioned between the engine and the gearbox, for a combined output of 224 hp and 427.8 lb-ft (580 Nm) of torque. The gearbox is Mercedes' now ubiquitous 7-speed automatic transmission. The electric motor is supplanted by a KERS-style brake energy recovery system and can power the car alone for short distances at speeds of up to 35 km/h or 22 mph while the diesel engine's toxic output is cleaned by the company's AdBlue system. The E300 BlueTEC returns 4.1 lt/ 100km (equal to 57.4 mpg US) and CO2 emissions of 109 g/km.
