Codenamed W212, the next-generation E-Class will arrive for the 2010 model year, with the estate version (codenamed S212) expected for 2011. It was also decided upon to rest the CLK-Class name in favour of selling it as an E-class coupe.^(http://www.carpoint.com.au/car-review/2990578.aspx)
Although not much information has been offered in regards to the upcoming fifth-generation E Class, sources are speculating an increase of around 20 mm in length. That, combined with a redesigned interior, will offer a more spacious feel to the passenger compartment.
An all-new instrument cluster, along with S-Class night-vision technology and an updated COMAND system will highlight the interior changes.
Power-wise, it looks as if the full-range of Mercedes engines will be available, in diesel and petrol variants, although there may be limits in developing markets. The basic powerplant will consist of four-cylinder engines with the horsepower rating starting at 175 bhp, followed by 6 and 8 Cylinders and the performance-built AMG variant.
A preview of the W212 was presented at 2008 Paris Motor Show through the Mercedes-Benz ConceptFASCINATION concept car.
