International Race Of Champions

IROC Introduction

Began in 1974, IROC is a racing series that pits the top 12 drivers against each other. The race is based on driver skill. 12 drivers are given identical cars and not allowed pit stops or to set up their cars. Currently IROC uses the Pontiact Trans Am. General Motors F-body cars have dominated the IROC series, out of 29 years running, a F-body has been the car of choice for 20 years. The first race in 1974 was run with Porsche Carrera's. From 1990 to 1993 IROC used the Dodge Daytona, and in 1994 and 1995 the Avenger.
