The Hyundai Veracruz is a new full-size crossover SUV to be sold by Hyundai on the US market and its home market. The official date of unveiling in South Korea is October 12, 2006. It will be available in the US by 2007. Hyundai has settled on its segment name as Luxury Utility Vehicle (LUV). It is a new, larger-than-Santa Fe crossover and will compete against large crossover SUVs such as the redesigned Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot, while it is also expected to compete with the new Mazda CX-9. The Veracruz will be built on the streched Santa Fe platform. Hyundai Crossovers all get their name from the western U.S. Now the Veracruz gets its name from Mexico. All this follows a western theme. From smallest the Tucson, middle Santa Fe, and large Veracruz. According to Autoweek, the Veracruz will be larger than the Honda Pilot, and will have more cargo volume than the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, power will come from a 3.8L V6 and in its home market, a 2.9 diesel with a standard 6 speed Automatic transmissionwith shiftronic.
