The HUMVEE/HMMWV is a military truck produced by AM General for use of the United States Military. The car can do heavy off-roading and gained popularity during the Gulf War leading to the development of a consumer version.

Hummer

The birth of the Hummer began with the Humvee. In 1992, Arnold Schwarzenegger was impressed with the military vehicle and decided to contact AM General to produce a road legal Humvee. The Hummer H1 was produced by General Motors after acquiring AM General. It was known for its over-sized width and the amazing off road capability though at the same time garnering controversy and derision. Production of the H1 ended in 2006.

However, Hummer kept producing cars much more refined SUVs, suitable for daily usage, in the form of the Hummer H2 and the Hummer H3.

In 2009, the brand became a casualty of the 2008 US Financial Crisis. After a protracted and ill-fated attempt by Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Company Ltd. to acquire the brand, General Motors decided to shut down the brand. The last Hummer to leave the factory, an H3 for rental car company Avis, was completed on May 24, 2010.
