Badge engineering is the marketing of the same car design under two different models under different names. This usually involves multiple marques and model names. In some cases, the model is the same name, but the marque is different. Sometimes each variation is sold in a different region. The same car may be sold by the same marque, but under different names. Often badge engineering is commissioned by one company. The company markets the same car under different makes, with one version being more luxurious than the other. The models in question sometimes are designed in a joint venture, and both companies sell their own versions. All three American automakers regularly badge engineer their products.
