The BMW 507 was a design masterpiece, an icon of the 50's and the roadster coupes that were popular in that era. 254 were produced between 1955-1960 (2 of which were prototypes), equipped with a 3168cc OHV V8 producing 155bhp @5000rpm. It was available as either a 2 door roadster or 2 door coupe. The 507 purchased by Elvis Presley while stationed in Germany with the US Army recently sold at auction for $350 000, with restored examples fetching between $200 000 and $300 000 at auction. The 507 has been credited as the inspiration for the Z cars of the late 90's and the early 21'st century.

The design was penned by Albrecht von Goertz, a German born, American resident industrial designer, was later went on to design the Datsun 240Z. The Toyota 2000GT coupe was also based on one of his prototypes. The 507 was produced in two production runs; Series 1 and Series 2. The Series 2 cars had an updated dashboard. Also, the rear bulkhead was moved back slightly to provide more luggage space behind the seats. 42 Series 1 and 210 Series 2 cars were built in the four years the 507 was in production.
