The Audi R8 V12 TDi Concept is a feasibility study and concept car of a top-range, Diesel V12-powered iteration of the massively popular Audi R8 supercar. It was first unveiled at the 2008 North American International Auto Show and is rumored to preview an already greenlit production variant that would become Audi's flagship model. The aforementioned oil-burning 12-pot, a product of Audi's extensive (and wildly successful) foray into Le Mans racing, displaces 6.0 litres and is helped along by twin-turbocharging. The mill produces 500 hp and 1000 Nm of torque. 80 hp and 421 lb-ft more than its lower-spec sibling. Performance is supposed to be phenomenal. Extensive use of carbon fiber lowered the weight despite the addition of new body panel real estate in the pursuit of aerodynamic efficacy. Taking all into consideration, it is not too far from the imagination to conclude that the production R8 V12 will be directly aimed at the likes of the Lamborghini Murcielago and the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano.
