The Altima Hybrid is built off Nissan's redesigned 2007 best-selling Altima sedan. It is being introduced for the 2007 model year and expected to be released early in the 2007 calendar year. The hybrid version will continue to maintain the Altima's current high performance but offer the hybrid components which give better fuel economy and lower emissions.
Nissan is licensing the drive system technology from Toyota; however they will offer the same 2.5-liter engine and transmission performance as the current Altima's. Although they are rivals, using Toyota's technology will move the Altima Hybrid to market faster and Toyota can recapture some of their technology investment.[[1]]
The standard and options on the Altima Hybrid and the current Altima are expected to be the same. For the customer the only difference will be the gasoline-electric engine and the CVT transmission combination.
The Smyrna, Tennessee plant is being made ready to assemble the new hybrid. Estimated U.S. sales are 50,000 units in its first year of production. The plan is to roll out these vehicles in 8 states where the market for hybrid vehicles is higher. These include California, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, Rhode Island, Maine and New Jersey.
Pricing
Pricing for the Nissan Altima Hybrid has not yet been announced.
Gas Mileage
Expected gas mileage is 40mpg. The Altima Hybrid is a mid sized car that has been designed to give luxury performance with the fuel economy of a compact car. [2][3]
