Welcome to Wikicars!

Hi there, TristanT, and welcome to Wikicars! I'm a regular moderator and contributor here, and when I notice on the recent changes log that a new editor has registered, I like to send them a welcome message - that's how I ended up on your talk page.

There are a few useful links that you might want to look at, designed to help newcomers to Wikicars learn the ropes:

Here are a few templates on Wikicars that I find particularly helpful when I start a new page:

Here are a few features of Wikicars that I find particularly helpful:

  • If you leave a message on a talk page, you can sign it with four tildes (~), which will automatically produce your name and a date stamp when you save the page.
  • The "Show preview" button allows you to look at what your post will look like before you save it - that way, you can proofread what you've written and not have to back and correct spelling mistakes, failed links, etc.
  • You can create a watchlist for yourself that will keep a record of any changes made to a page that interests you.

There are plenty of other features and facets of Wikicars, many of which I probably haven't even discovered myself, so have fun looking around and finding them.

If you need help, ask me on my talk page.

Again, welcome and thanks for adding to our community!

p.s. If you wish to create a new page for a model of car or a car company, please type either of these down {{subst:model}} or {{subst:make}}. There are also various templates for different types of vehicles, such as {{subst:Concept Model}} for concept cars; {{subst:Racing Model}} for general racing vehicles and {{subst:Formula One Car}} for Formula One vehicles. Note that these codes are all case sensitive. I would advice you to first check out a number of our featured pages to get a feel and idea of the overall product we aim for. This is necessary for the sake of professionalism. If you have any further questions, simply contact me or any other one of the admins.

Categorizing images

Hi. I've noticed you've been uploading images. Just so you know, we have regulations about that. Don't worry, it's nowhere near as complicated as in Wikipedia. All we require is you type in [[Category:(The marque of the car ie Ford, Jaguar, etc.) images]] on the summary box on the upload file page. It's a bit annoying, I know, but this is to help streamline Wikicars and make it user friendly for editors (you) and administrators (me) alike. Thanks very much for your cooperation.

ps. When creating new pages, we also have some guidelines - again for the sake of organization and professionalism. I have included a few "shortcuts" to creating them on the above Welcome Note. I do advise you to spend a few minutes reading it.

Issue on your categorizing

I think you took that a little too literally. The "marque of the car" should be the marque of the car. For example, the picture you recently uploaded, this:

Image:Holdenvxcommodore.jpg

should be categorized under Holden because it is a picture of a Holden. So what that should say is [[Category:Holden images]].

Thumbnail problem

It's Wikicars. A few weeks ago the site went kaput and when the powers that be at Internet Brands (Wikicars' parent) restored the site the problem you've experienced came along with. Unfortunately, though I've been badgering them to do something about it for the last few weeks, they just don't seem to care about us. So were pretty much stuck with this crap until the administration pull their heads out of their collective asses.

creating new pages

Hi. I've noticed you've been creating a whole host of new pages. I've also noticed also have been creating them with your own version of pages. Not to sound insulting but please stop that. We have a standardized template for creating pages that we want to see deployed for the sake of professionalism. to create a new page, simply type this line {{subst:Model}}. I know we have some pages that seem to follow your style but those are older pages - before we standardized and organized Wikicars. They are essentially mistakes that will be rectified very soon. Also, please read the welcome note I've posted above this page. Specifically, the second to last paragraph. Besides the model page, we have templates for various other types of pages. You can find ow to make them there. Thanks for our attention and for your invaluable contributions to our humble site.

ps. don't remove fields in the infobox either. you may not have the information in question but someone might come along who does and we don't want to take away their ability to contribute by confusing them. this isn't wikipedia. those infoboxes do not collapse if the information is not filled up.

Ooops.

In making the Peugeot 306 page you made a mistake with the "subst" shortcut. You should have separated the words subst and model with a colon (:) not a vertical line (|).

User page

How about you fill up your user page?

I really admire the amount of work you've been contributing to Wikicars the past few days. I'm thinking I might promote you to admin/sysop status.

Red marquis 04:09, 31 October 2008 (PDT)

That's great. I'm a design student myself.

Red marquis 04:34, 31 October 2008 (PDT)

I changed your join date. That's when you made your first edit. Not sure though if that's when you joined. Just fix accordingly. Didn't realize you've been with us for that long. Red marquis 04:43, 31 October 2008 (PDT)

adminship

It's done. Try to see if you can now "block" users. Go to recent changes on the left of your screen then check if you can see these options: (Talk | contribs | block) beside a user.

Toyota Corolla WRC

Noticed you were having some trouble creating the page. Fixed it.

Creating racing car pages

The link is actually {{subst:Racing Model}}. Hope that helps.

Wikicars' Third Birthday

In case you'd like to know, Wikicars celebrated its third anniversary 5 days ago on August 2. It completely slipped my mind, interestingly enough.

Holden Commodore

Are you asking permission to transfer the info on the current gen Commodore in the Holden Commodore page to the Holden VE Commodore article? If so, then go ahead by all means.

I didn't know there was going to be a new one. The current gen doesn't seem all that old. Is the new one going to be based on the Opel/Vauxhall Insignia?

Red marquis 01:57, 8 August 2009 (PDT)

You don't have to be sorry. I live in the Philippines and follow the major car blogs for news and there were never any hints.

Car Review

Do you by chance have a finished and completed review? I'm thinking of featuring them on the front page.

Red marquis 07:59, 16 August 2009 (PDT)

Concept car page

type {{subst:Concept Model}}.
