Shirō Nakamura (b. 1951) is a Japanese industrial designer. He is currently the Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer of Design and Brand Management of Nissan and Infiniti.

He is nicknamed "Fingers" by his colleagues as he has a reputation for being hands-on. He is also music lover and plays the cello. In 2010, he was ranked by Fast Company in their list of The 100 Most Creative People at #4.

Background

Born in Japan in 1951, Nakamura started his career in 1974 at the Musashino Art University in Tokyo where he graduated as a Bachelor of Art in Industrial Design. Following his graduation he joined Isuzu Motors Ltd. Later, he emigrated to the USA to attend the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. After graduating from the illustrious art school in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Transportation Design, he joined General Motors' Advance Design Studio in 1985. In 1989, he returned to Isuzu where he penned the Isuzu Vehicross and Isuzu Gemini. After 10 years, he moved to Nissan in 1999. At Nissan, he would climb the ranks to his current position as, effectively, the Chief of Design for both the Japanese company and its American luxury off-shoot Infiniti. Along the way, he penned the Infiniti FX45, Nissan 350Z, Infiniti Coupe Concept, Nissan Murano and the GT-R.
