Optimal Energy is a South African plug-in electric car manufacturer started in 2005 by Kobus Meiring with Mike Lomberg, Jian Swiegers and Gerhard Swart. It is based in Cape Town. Their first car, the Optimal Energy Joule was unveiled at the 2008 Paris Motor Show.
