Worldwide

This model was produced in Japan, Italy and Brazil.

Its original name was "Mitsubishi Pajero iO", but as with all the Pajero range, this denomination had to be changed for its meaning in Spanish in hispanic Europe and Latin America (the word meaning "wanker"). It was thus called "Mitsubishi Montero iO" UK Pajeros were allways called Shogun.

Latin American versions had as is common for the region, more austere versions:

  • No Gasoline Direct Injection System (GDI)(owing to petrol levels with lower octane in the region)
  • No airbags (initial models)
  • Softer, higher suspension for the surfaces of the region.

The Montero iO was a full all-terrain vehicle, with a separate chassis and a fullly reductible 4x4 transmission. Levels of durability and reliability are believed to be excellent after 11 years since initial production
